Visit to EMAK Cyprus: Search and Rescue Demonstration
As part of the Canine Management Studies programme at City Unity College, students had the opportunity to visit the facilities of the Disaster Response Special Unit (DRSU) of the Cyprus Fire Service, where a special demonstration of a simulated search and rescue operation took place.
DRSU is the only professional Urban Search and Rescue team of the Republic of Cyprus, with the primary mission of responding to the consequences of natural, technological, and other disasters.
It operates effectively in incidents such as earthquakes, severe weather events, floods, large-scale rural, urban, and industrial fires, as well as search and rescue operations both on land and at sea.
With a high level of training, specialization, dedication, and operational readiness, DRSU plays a crucial role in safeguarding human life, protecting the environment and forest resources, while also providing substantial support at an international level.
Each dog in DRSU’s K9 unit has its own handler, with whom it develops a unique bond of trust. Together, they dedicate countless hours to training, participating in exercises that simulate real-life rescue conditions.
They are always ready to provide assistance wherever and whenever needed.
A big thank you to the tireless four-legged members of DRSU and their handlers.
