Aim of the programme

The Retail Merchandising and Management programme is designed to prepare graduates for future employment in corporate, regional or store-level management positions in the retail industry and support areas.
The aims of the programme are to provide students with a broad knowledge of the main features of retail business organisations, to present current comprehensive analysis of management theory and practices and to promote student understanding with applied innovative learning and teaching practices in particular in the retail management domain.

This course provides the student with a all-inclusive view of retailing and an application of marketing concepts in a practical retail managerial environment. We will analyze current multi-channel retail strategies among bricks-and-mortar and web based firms. Retailing is changing today, and the successful business will know how to identify, adapt, and plan with the changes, without moving away from its proficiencies. We will consider: the development of a retail format and its strategy, the analysis of a target market, analysis related to site selection, retail customer issues, and category management.

Buying, accounting and financial analysis, budgeting and pricing will also be investigated. Students through this programme will explore the functional areas of retailing, including marketing, promotions, human resources, customer service management, retail management, accounting and economics, buying, budgeting and purchasing and visual merchandising. They will also sharpen their skills in analytical reasoning, critical thinking, practical workshops in stores, problem-solving, oral and written communications.
